Raúl sold the frustration and resignation excellently in the trial scene. He fought for Nick and for himself in a sense and they both lost. How much he had to endure such things from his own father. It was very obvious how infuriating it was for Barba when Nick's father dodged every bullet on the stand, how familiar it was when he was putting him down with "the gentleman in suspenders" comment. We never found out how exactly Barba's father treated him but it's clear that he saw him in Nick's. I wish we saw their friendship a little more after that. And this episode was the most prominent for that.
It was very subtle how they slowly gained respect for each other. Their characters had so much in common but they weren't on the same wave which was very intriguing. They had two fantastic Cuban actors at the same time and unfortunately they didn't utilize it enough. Danny Pino was finally given the chance to shine and we saw deeper behind the tough guy act.
